PlugVan – a necessary link in the evolution of RV

PlugVan is fully consistent with the idea of the massification of road yachts stated in its framework. What, in turn, means one important circumstance: the trend really takes place in different parts of the world, people thinking in the spirit of "integrated design" (regardless of the realization that this is an integrated design), are looking in the same direction. First of all, the solution presented is important because it very well fits the set of categories of "logistic design".

As was recently presented in a separate work, in the scope of this concept it is possible to link such engineering and artistic areas as:

  • architectural metabolism;
  • integrated design;
  • recreational vehicle (in a broad sense);
  • baggage-fodder warfare.

Anyone familiar with all these four areas will easily find that the proposed product solution organically corresponds to all these areas, which in my case are combined in the macro-social neo-nomadic concept of logistics, as follows from the problems of personal freedom and comfortable migration identified in that work, as a solution of which it was proposed.
At the same time, the PlugVan module also fits very well into the already existing set of the subject-technological set, implementing the declared ones as part of the concept:

  • combination of cargo platform with residential (recreational) volume;
  • a radical reduction in the cost of recreational vehicle due to the separability, or modularity, of the transport platform and component dwelling facilities as a single compartment; due to what
  • it is possible to use both components both in combination and as separate utility spaces, that is, a transport platform - as a cargo van.

In addition, the PlugVan solution detects the associated synergies:

  • to ensure maximum privacy and intrinsic protection of the residential component due to the minimum windows in the cargo van and double walls (ventilation and other add-ons are possible in the ceiling format);
  • suitability and substitutability for almost any freight-cargo volumes - not only proportionate, but also large in size, which means the possibility of multi-compartment implementation on one platform;
  • the external indistinguishability of a standard small-sized vehicle carrying such a module, thereby performing a passenger function, from a truck one, which it is in its original configuration.

The fact of the realization of the very concept of fully embedding the volume of the residential module in the volume of the van reveals the possibilities known to the author of these lines to further reduce the cost and scale of the useful volume of the dwelling module possible in the production in DIY format, besides those presented in PlugVan. By the way, the implementation of its large-scale adaptation to the transport dimensions of the carrying cargo volume is a classic transformer scheme with sliding sections, typical of premium-class road yachts (based on long-distance buses) and some types of deployable useful volumes of military field equipment.

It seems that this thing decently "shoot" in the mass market. Fully integrated solution in the development of the idea of "L-shaped" modules for pick-up bodies, but more is acceptable. In addition, even all-wheel drive vans are much cheaper than other pickups, for which the PlugVan is also quite applicable. The name of the German Jörg Kortmann will now be next to the names of the Japanese Kisho Kurokawa, the Austrian Czech Victor Papanek and the American Paul Elkins. Not to mention about someone bigger.
